Tango Danza Prohibida is a new show for Playboy TV Latin America featuring some pretty swell Art Direction, Music and Cinematography. It appears to be airing only in Argentina and Mexico from their website which also has a fine looking trailer. I often struggle with Spanish, particularly Argentine Spanish, and got a little bored trying to figure out the storyline, maybe another look later on, but what I found curious was that it seems to feature a heavy lesbian twist.
Which is all fine and dandy, but apart from Argentines and Uruguayans (same nation, really) who invented the tango few know it’s origins so I’d like to point it out. Despite it’s super sexy and macho, dominant moves on the part of the man, you may be surprised to learn that the tango was originally danced by two men. Yup. The story goes that the tango got it’s origins in the brothels of Buenos Aires where men who were waiting for the next available girl would pass the time by dancing in pairs in a machismo display of outdoing each other’s steps while hanging out in the waiting room of the “quilombo” or whorehouse.
Only later as it became popular in Europe and become more acceptable rather than associated with sleaze i.e. the kilombo or quilombo, did it evolve towards, still a sexy dance, but one that is very heterosexual as opposed to say, maybe, just maybe, bi-curious? Anyway, for more Argentine lesbians, I highly, highly recommend Argenteens!
